Hydrogen is the key to our transition to clean energy, and reaching net zero.
Green hydrogen fuel is zero-emission and energy-dense, offering a replacement for fossil fuels. Hydrogen power can also be used to supplement and stabilise renewable energy grids.
In 2024, 10% of UK windfarm power generation was curtailed, meaning 8.3 TWh of wind energy was rejected from the grid due to limitations in transmission capacity. This is where Hydrogen comes in.
Electrolysers can utilise excess wind and solar power, converting the energy into storable, transportable, hydrogen fuel, reducing curtailment and grid congestion. By transitioning to green hydrogen, businesses can future-proof their energy strategy, reduce reliance on volatile fossil fuel markets, and contribute to global decarbonisation goals.
How it Works
HyMarnham Power produces low carbon hydrogen through a proven, reliable process called electrolysis – the separation of water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity. Our 15 MW electrolysis system is powered by renewable energy, ensuring the hydrogen we produce has a minimal carbon footprint.
Step-by-step process:
Renewable power supply
Electricity from renewable generation – connected through the site’s active National Grid substation – feeds our electrolysers.
Electrolysis
Water is passed through the electrolyser where an electrical current splits it into hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen is released, while the hydrogen is collected for storage.
On-site hydrogen storage
The hydrogen is compressed and stored in secure, purpose-built tube trailers and MCPs designed to meet high safety and reliability standards.
Distribution to customers
Hydrogen is transported from our site to customers across the UK, supplying industries, transport operators, and energy providers.

Use without emissions
When used, our hydrogen produces only water vapour, delivering clean energy with zero carbon dioxide and no harmful pollutants.
Our production process is backed by strict quality control to ensure consistent purity, making it suitable for a wide range of applications – from powering heavy vehicles to fuelling zero-emission generators.

What is green hydrogen
Green hydrogen is made using a process called electrolysis, where renewable electricity from wind, solar, or hydro power is used to split water (H₂O) into hydrogen (H₂) and oxygen (O₂). This takes place inside an electrolyser, a device with two electrodes submerged in water.
When powered, it triggers a reaction that separates the water molecules. The hydrogen is captured as a clean, energy-rich fuel, while the oxygen is released into the air or used in industry.
Unlike “grey” or “blue” hydrogen, which rely on fossil fuels, green hydrogen is completely carbon-free because it is produced entirely with renewable electricity. It can be stored and transported for use in fuel cells, heavy industry, transport, and power generation, making it a key solution for decarbonising sectors that are difficult to electrify and for improving energy security through long-term renewable storage.
